On December 7-9, the 3rd National College Student Water Polo Championship was held at the Sports Center Natatorium on the Jiading Campus of Tongji University. This championship was sponsored by the Handball, Hockey, Baseball, and Volleyball Games Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of China and the Federation of University Sports of China, undertaken by Tongji University, and co-organized by the Swimming Branch of the Federation of University Sports of China. It attracted nearly 200 athletes from nine higher educational institutions nationwide, and record-broadcast by CCTV-5.
After two semesters of meticulous preparations, SHOU sent two water polo teams (one male team and one female team), led by Shi Lin and coached by Zhang Fan, Qu Baowei, and Song Yutong from the Department of Physical Education and Sport. After three days of intense competition, our male water polo team ranked in the second place; our female water polo team was transferred to Group B (professional group), because of the insufficiency of participating teams in Group A (non-professional group), and ultimately ranked in the fourth place in the professional group. In addition, Zhao Jingying from the College of Fisheries and Life Science and Shu Zhitao from the College of Food Science and Technology were given PE Morality Award, and Huang Likun from the College of Information Technology was elected as the “Best Goalkeeper”.
