On October 13-15, the International Symposium on Technology Innovation and Social Impact of Integrated Agro-aquaculture- Rice-Fish System was held at SHOU. It was co-sponsored by SHOU, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, FAO), and China Society of Fisheries, and co-organized by National Fishery Technical Extension Center (NFTEC) and China Strategic Alliance of Industry Technology Innovation of Integrated Agro-aquaculture- Rice-Fish System. Present at the symposium were Matthias Halwart, Director of FAO Fisheries & Aquaculture; Yuan Xinhua, senior officer of FAO Fisheries & Aquaculture; Liao Weimin, senior technology officer of FAO Fisheries & Aquaculture; Dr. Huang Jie, Secretary-General of the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA); and representatives from ten countries, including France, Kenya, Laos, Indonesia, Nepal, Myanmar, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
In 2018, FAO and SHOU jointly sponsored the “International Symposium on Promoting the Social Impact of Integrated Agro-aquaculture- Rice-Fish System”. In 2019, besides the social benefits and impact of Integrated Agro-aquaculture- Rice-Fish System, the event also organized exchanges about the latest research achievements and technology innovations. In 2020, the 3rd International Symposium on Technology Innovation and Social Impact of Integrated Agro-aquaculture- Rice-Fish System will continue to provide a platform for exchange of ideas, viewpoints, and experience among scientists and practitioners worldwide. Based on the first-class discipline construction of aquatic products science by SHOU, on the one hand, the symposium will provide strong intellectual and technical support for the development of Integrated Agro-aquaculture- Rice-Fish System worldwide; on the other hand, it will add fresh impetus to the strategy of supporting poor areas using technology in countries along the “Belt and Road”.
