On September 7, Symposium of Sino-Portuguese Marine Biology & Sino-Portuguese Joint International Research Laboratory of Marine Biology were held in the Meeting Room 102 of the Tuwen Information Center of SHOU.
Present at the meeting were João Pedro Fins Do Lago, Consul-General of Portugal at Shanghai; Mário Quina, Commercial Counselor; Professor António Branco, President of Algarve University; Professor Anabela Afonso, Assistant to the President; Cheng Yudong, President of SHOU; Li Jiale, Vice President of SHOU; leaders of related departments of SHOU; professors of Algarve University; and teacher and graduate student representatives of SHOU. The opening ceremony was presided over by Li Jiale.
Cheng Yudong, António Branco and João Pedro Fins Do Lago presented in succession their speeches at opening ceremony of Symposium of Sino-Portuguese Marine Biology & the Meeting of Establishing Sino-Portuguese Joint International Research Laboratory of Marine Biology; Professors Chen Liangbiao and Adelino Canario, Directors of Sino-Portuguese Joint International Research Laboratory of Marine Biology, unveiled the nameplate, and spoke on behalf of Director of the Chinese laboratory and Director of the Portuguese laboratory, respectively. After that, they introduced the basic conditions of their universities and laboratories, the results of previous cooperation, the application for NSF International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange programs and National Key R&D Program entitled “Key Program for Inter-government International S&T Cooperation Projects”, the exchange of students and so forth, and thanked the leaders of both sides for their support and the teachers and students for their strenuous efforts made in establishing the laboratory. With the joint efforts of both sides, no doubt Sino-Portuguese Joint International Research Laboratory of Marine Biology will produce satisfactory results of science and technology.
