The Delegation Led by Mayor of Akureyri, Iceland Visited SHOU

On the morning of May 30, the 15-person delegation led by Eirikur Bjorn Bjorgvinsson, Mayor of Akureyri, Iceland, and by Eyjolfur Gudmundsson, President of the University of Akureyri, visited SHOU in the company of related staff from Shanghai Lingang Area Development Administration and the Polar Research Institute of China, and held a meeting with President Cheng Yudong, Vice President Li Jiale, heads of related offices and colleges, and faculty representatives.

President Cheng warmly welcomed the delegation of Eirikur Bjorn Bjorgvinsson on behalf of SHOU, and introduced SHOU’s development history and status, features of academic construction, internationalization progress and development vision for 2030 to the guests. After that, Eirikur Bjorn Bjorgvinsson, Mayor of Akureyri, Iceland, gave an overview on Iceland and Akureyri; following him, Eyjolfur Gudmundsson expressed the hope that the cooperation and exchange between the two universities could be extended to more fields, especially in terms of student cultivation.

The University of Akureyri has a common vision with SHOU in the research fields of biotechnology, fishery science, fishery economy, Arctic research, polar law, ocean management, etc. Both sides expressed the hope that, through this first-round negotiation and communication, the cooperation framework between the two universities would be established to promote full-scale cooperation and exchange and to elevate the international vision of teachers and students from both universities.
