On Nov. 15, 2016, the 10th Crab Cultural Festival & 2016 “Central Hotel Shanghai Cup” National River Crab Contest of Shanghai Ocean University was successfully launched on Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street. This contest was jointly held by Shanghai Ocean University and Central Hotel Shanghai Co., Ltd. for the fifth time. More than 1,900 river crabs from nearly 70 aquaculture units distributed in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Shandong, He’nan and so forth would compete for the “Oscar Award” of the river crab industry in China.

After election by experts, 20 units won the “High-quality Crab Award”, including State-owned Jiujiang Saicheng Lake Fishery Farm, Jiangxi Junshan Lake Harvesting Agriculture Co., Ltd., Suzhou Hengguan Aquatic Products Co., Ltd. and so forth; 42 units won the “Gold Crab Award”, including Zhenjiang Association of River Aquatic Products Industry, Nantong Rupeng Biological Co., Ltd., Lujiang County Tianhu Lake Crab Industry Co., Ltd. and so forth (two of them from Taiwan); five companies won the “Best Germplasm Award”, including Gaolou Township People’s Government of Weishan County, Suzhou Lake Baxian Eco-agriculture Development Co., Ltd. and so forth. The “Optimal Taste Award” was won by six units, including Kunshan Yangcheng Lake Zhou’s 180 Aquatic Products Co. Ltd., High-quality Hairy Crab Production & Sales Association of Miaoli County of Taiwan and so forth. In the election of “King of Crabs” and “Queen of Crabs”, the river crabs, respectively 455.2g and 366.0g in weight, submitted by the Crab Association of Wuhe County of Anhui Province and the Junshan Lake Fish & Crab Development Co., Ltd. of Jinxian County of Jiangxi Province respectively won the titles of “King of Crabs” and “Queen of Crabs”. The relevant leaders of more than 20 units, such as the Taiwanese Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, various industry associations of Shanghai Municipal Aquatic Products System, the Shanghai Society of Food Science, Central Hotel Shanghai Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Ocean University, attended the event and presented the awards to the winners. The delegation led by Liu Zhenghong, former Head of Miaoli County of Taiwan, consisting of the leaders of the Agricultural Office of Miaoli County and the aquaculture farmers of the county, paid a special trip to Shanghai to participate in the contest.
