On September 24, the first meeting of the first editorial board of Magazine Aquaculture and Fisheries in 2016 was held in Shanghai Ocean University. President Cheng Yudong of Shanghai Ocean University attended the meeting, made a welcoming speech on behalf the sponsor, Shanghai Ocean University, and awarded the appointment certificates to the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editor-in-Chief. Secretary General Situ Jiantong of China Society of Fisheries and Ms. Chai Zhao of Science Press made speeches on behalf of the two hosting organizations respectively. Three co-editors, namely Academician Gui Jianfang of the CAS Hydrobiological Research Institute, Professor Huang Shuolin of Shanghai Ocean University and Professor Chen Yong of the University of Maine, presided over the reporting and discussing sessions of the meeting. 19 editors-in-chief and associate editors-in-chief from America, Canada, Singapore, Mainland China and Taiwan and staff members of the editorial department of journal participated in the meeting.
Academician Gui Jianfang, Professor Huang Shuolin and Professor Chen Yong made speeches as editors respectively, indicating that the publication of the first English aquaculture journal in China satisfied the demands of Chinese scientific and technical worker in aquaculture, filled the gap in the development of Chinese aquaculture journal, and was a great event in the entire academic community of aquaculture. They said they would try their best to guide the first editorial board and make joint efforts to make the new journal one of the top international aquaculture journals as soon as possible. Professor Jiang Min, Director of the Editorial Department, introduced the phased work of the Editorial Department from different perspectives, including the application for English journal, the official reply from the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television, the invitation for bids and cooperation with overseas publishers, the contributions and contribution reviewing, current development environment, journal development prospects, work plan in 2017, etc. Chai Zhao, Associate Senior Editor of the Science Press, made a report themed on “editorial board and publication”, introducing in details the main processes of the publication of international journals and the role of the editorial board in the publication of journal. Doctor Liu Yan of the Editorial Department introduced how to use EVISE, a newly released contribution reviewing system.
All participating editors ardently discussed the macro strategies of the future development, technical improvement and other issued related to the journal from multiple perspectives.
At last, Vice President Li Jiale made appreciation to the editorial board for their supports to the journal on behalf of the university, put forward requirements on the work of the editorial board, and expressed the will of the university to escort the development of the journal together with China Society of Fisheries and Science Press.
