SHOU Faculties Attended the 11th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum

Jointly hosted by the Asian Fisheries Society, the Fisheries Division of Thailand Department of Agriculture, and FAO Network of Aquaculture Centers in Asia-Pacific (NACA), the 11th Asian Fisheries and aquaculture Forum was held from August 3 to 7 in Bangkok, Thailand. Nearly 600 guests, including the official representatives of the ASEAN countries, the representatives of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization, the 11th board members of the Asian Fisheries Society, the scholars of Asia's aquaculture sectors, and the suppliers participated in the Forum. The Chairman of the 11th Board of the Asian Fisheries Society, the chair professors of SHOU Marine Research Institute, Professors Huang Shuolin, Professor Zhang Xiaoli, Professor Jiang Min, Dr. Liu Yiyang, Dr. Liu yan, Mr. Huang Li, Mr. Wang Yiwen, and PhD student Shen Huihui attended the Forum. Professor Huang Shuolin made an opening statement during the opening ceremony of the Forum on behalf of the Asian Fisheries Society, pointing out that the sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture will play an important role in the global food security and economic growth. For the benefit of the present and future generations, we should participate in and contribute to the sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture. Dr. Liu Yiyang and PhD student Shen Huihui made their presentations respectively, with titles of Analysis of Influence of Industrial Organization Form on Farming Performance of Large Yellow Croaker Farmers and China's Policies and Practices in Distant Water Tuna Fisheries , each introduced the influence of different forms of industrial structure on the farmers who breed the large yellow croakers and the development and the practice of China's offshore fisheries policies for fishing tuna in the constantly changing international environment. And during the question time, they gave detailed explanations and answers to the questions on the status of large yellow croakers cultured in China, fishermen transferring, and issues of foreign fishermen.

Professor Huang Shuolin also hosted the 12th general assembly and the 48th board of directors of the Asian Fisheries Society. At the 12th general assembly, Prof. Huang made the 11th work report of the board of directors, chaired the elections of the 12th Council, and completed the transition work of the Asian Fisheries Society. As the Immediate Past President, Professor Huang Shuolin continued to serve as the director of the 12th Council and the Executive Committee member of the Asian Fisheries Society, and Professor Jiang Min of SHOU was elected as the new director of the 12th Council of the Asian Fisheries Society.

During the forum, the Southeast Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Exhibition was also held. SHOU academic journal editorial department presented the three journals sponsored by SHOU during the exhibition: The Aquatic Journal, the Journal of Shanghai Ocean University, and the Aquaculture and Fisheries, in particular, it publicized and promoted the Aquaculture and Fisheries, a new English journal of SHOU to the participating scholars, which lays the foundation for collecting contributions, increasing the magazine's visibility in the future. SHOU’s joint venture Shanghai Taihe Water Environment Technology Development Co., Ltd. also participated in the exhibition. Both the Journal Editorial Department and Shanghai Taihe Water And Environmental Technology Development Co., Ltd. won the silver medal for exhibitors of the Forum awarded by the Asian Fisheries Society. Dr. Zhou Tingting from SHOU Office of Science and Technology was granted the Outstanding Contribution Award (Merit Award) by the Asian Fisheries Society due to her excellence in the society affairs and the organization of relevant forums of the society.
