On May 20, 2016, the Ministry of Science and Technology organized the acceptance inspection conference for “Research of Key Catching and Processing Technology for Pelagic Fishery” under 863 program of the 12th Five-year plan, with SHOU professor Chen Xinjun as the chief scientist of the project. The conference was presided over by 21st Century Agenda Administration Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the expert panel was composed of 9 scientists from the field of ocean technology. Around 60 people from over 10 organizations took part in the meeting, including Shanghai Ocean University, East China Sea Fishery Research Institution of China Academy of Fishery, Zhejiang University of Technology, and Shanghai Kaichuang Deep Sea Fishing Co., Ltd.

The project consists of four tasks, namely research of key technologies for efficient use of trachurus murphyi resources, seining and ultralow temperature preservation of oceanic tuna, catching and processing of sleeve-fish resources, and general design of the factory trawler for euphausia superba. The inspection team agreed unanimously that the materials and technical data submitted for acceptance inspection were complete and in compliance with the requirements after listening to reports of the project chief and four persons in charge of the task, reviewing the acceptance inspection material and inquiring of execution and results of the project, and that it met the evaluation objective and technical indicators specified in the contract, and finally agreed in unanimity that the project passed the acceptance inspection.

This is a major project on deep-sea fishing supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology during the 12th Five-year period. With its vigorous support and efforts of the task teams over the past four years, the project team has made applications for 33 invention patents (12 of which are patented), obtained 10 pieces of software copyright registration, and published 43 SCI/EI papers. It has also set up a number of technology research teams on large trawl fishing and processing, tuna catching and processing, squid catching and processing and design of factory trawler for euphausia superba, with sizable socioeconomic effect achieved.
