International Ship Ballast Water Test and Application Joint Lab Inaugurated in Shanghai Ocean University

In the afternoon on April 27, 2015, the signing ceremony for jointly establishing International Ship Ballast Water Test and Application Joint Lab by Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau and our university was held in the meeting room on the 12th floor of the Information Center. President Cheng Yudong and Vice Director Zhou Lipei from Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau attended the meeting and signed the joint construction agreement on behalf of each party. This would provide important guarantee and technical support for China’s compliance with ballast water agreement.

Based on the principle of “complementary advantages and resource sharing, both parties actively developed bilateral cooperation centered on national demand for strategic industrial development under the aim of promoting the construction of Shanghai international shipping center so as to effectively respond to any possible green shipping technical barriers after international convention on ballast water has come into effect.

At the meeting, representatives from both sides exchanged and discussed on specific work during subsequent cooperation, and identified the focus of work on ecological risk evaluation for international ship ballast water and preparation for relevant ballast water standards. The jointly developed International Ship Ballast Water Test and Application Joint Lab bespoke that China’s technical support in enforcing international convention on ballast water has been further intensified.
