New Zealand Ambassador for Pacific Economic Development Visited Shanghai Ocean University

On June 4, 2015, Mr. Shane Jones, New Zealand Ambassador for Pacific Economic Development, Mr. Carl Worker, chief business advisor of New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ms. Joanna Anderson, international policy advisor of New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industry and others paid a visit to Shanghai Ocean University.

Mr. Cheng Yudong, president of Shanghai Ocean University, held friendly talks with Mr. Shane Jones and briefed the guests on the development of our marine fisheries disciplines, especially the achievements in pelagic fisheries by serving the governments and enterprises in the last 30 years.

The visit of the Ambassador focused on the long-term sustainable development of the South Pacific albacore tuna. China is the most important fisher of the South Pacific albacore tuna and our tuna technical group has contributed greatly to the sustainable development of tuna in China. The visit further enhanced mutual understanding of the two sides.

After the meeting, New Zealand guests also entered into in-depth communication with Prof. Chen Yong, advisor of tuna technical group, and some other 20 technicians and students from tuna technical group and the College of Pelagic Fisheries on tuna scientific observer program, fishing log plan and others.
