Ray William Hilborn, Fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences and Royal Society of Canada , Visited Shanghai Ocean University

On September 21-22, Ray William Hilborn, Fellow of both American Academy of Arts and Sciences and Royal Society of Canada and Professor of University of Washington, paid a visit to our school upon invitation. 

Professor Hilborn, elected successively by Royal Society of Canada and American Academy of Arts and Sciences as a fellow, and now professor of University of Washington, is one of the world’s most renowned scientists on fisheries. Vice President Li Jiale of Shanghai Ocean University introduced our history to Prof. Hilborn and expressed that we were strengthening cooperation with internationally renowned institutions to improve our academic strength and international influence.

Prof. Ray William Hilborn discussed with our faculty members on the current development situations of world fisheries. Both sides introduced to each other respective scientific researches and achievements. After understanding our development situations in ocean fisheries, Prof. Hilborn made reasonable proposals on development and management of tuna, squid, mackerel, Jack mackerel and other fishes. Fisheries experts from Shanghai Ocean University had warm discussions with Prof. Hilborn and hoped for concerted efforts to improve strength in fisheries study and extend our fisheries study even further. Both parties also reached cooperation intentions on doctoral education, young teacher development and scientific researches.

During the 2-day visit, Prof. Ray William Hilborn also gave lecture on the 2nd President Seminar, attended and gave lessons to the advanced application seminar on evaluation and management of fisheries resources.
