On April 18, the inauguration ceremony for the Simulation Center for Abyss Science and Technology Mobile Laboratory and the opening ceremony for Zhang Jian Expedition Ship was held in our university. In the opening ceremony, the mysterious veil of the full-scale conceptual model of “Rainbow Fish” Manned Submersible was also unveiled.
The “Simulation Center” is led by Shanghai Ocean University and invested by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. Abyss Science and Technology Research Center provided the data and technical support, and Shanghai Rainbow Fish Marine Science and Technology Co., Ltd undertook its construction. It is designed to publicize the technical equipment for abyss and scientific knowledge on abyss to fill the lack of education on abyss, especially the education for teens, and to promote the continuous development of the abyss industry in our country.
“Zhang Jian Ship” organically combined the three functions of manned mother ship of submersible, comprehensive survey on ocean science, support for deep sea engineering work for the first time. Its completion will provide support for sea trials and assignments of the series products of 11000 meter-deep submersibles (including 3 10000-meter Landers, 1 10000-meter unmanned submersible, and 1 10000-meter unmanned submersible). In addition to the scientific survey and research on abyss, the ship also carry out general marine scientific survey and research on deep sea (including the survey and research on physical sea in the deep and far ocean, geophysics, ocean chemistry, seabed geology, marine organism, etc,), sea trials of oceanographic instruments and equipment, engineering facilities for ocean oil and gas, submarine power communication facilities, underwater installation of marine environmental monitoring facilities, testing and maintenance services, marine accident rescue and salvage, underwater archeology and filming, deep-sea exploration and sightseeing, etc.
