The Second Asian Fishery and Aquaculture Higher Education Conference Was Held in Our University

On April 23-24, 2015, on the theme of Better Education, Better Specialty, Better Industry, the Second Asian Fishery and Aquaculture Higher Education Conference was held in our university. More than 100 experts and scholars from the Asia-Pacific region gathered in our university, and discussed about the higher education on fishery and aquaculture in Asia-Pacific region so as to promote the sustainable development of Asian fishery and aquaculture industry.

Liang Weiquan, the director of Shanghai Fishery Office, introduced the fishery development in our country and the status quo of the urban fishery in Shanghai. He said that Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Shanghai Municipal Government both attach great importance to the fishery development. Based on the actual situation in Shanghai, Shanghai government is constantly blazing new trail and forging ahead. Besides, Shanghai also established the development direction to speed up the development of urban modern fishery in Shanghai, and realized the strategic transition of Shanghai fishery from dispersal to concentration, from quantity to quality, from production to ecology, and from product to service. In the recent years, the infrastructure of Shanghai fishery keeps being improved, the scientific technology support and maintenance capability in fishery are enhanced, the safety supervision level in fishery is improved, the development space of fishery industry is expanded, the ecological civilization construction in fishery is constantly promoted, and the characteristics and features of the modern urban fishery in Shanghai are continuously emerging. In 2014, the total output of aquatic products in Shanghai ran up to 340,500 tons, 13.98% more than in 2013. The total value of fishery output achieved 6.886 billion yuan, rose by 5.13% from last year. The per capita income of the fishermen ran up to 24,670 yuan, increased by 15 %.

After the opening ceremony, Professor Tatsuro Matsuoka from Kagoshima University, Professor John Bostock from University of Stirling, and Professor Huang Shuolin from Shanghai Ocean University made keynote speeches respectively.

During the meeting time of two days, the Chinese and foreign experts discussed about the status quo and position of fishery and aquaculture, the development and implementation of professional curriculum, and the partnership in industry-university-research cooperation.
