On June 7, series of activities of “World Ocean Day and National Ocean Publicity Day” were started in our university. These activities are aimed to popularize the knowledge of marine science, arouse the enthusiasm for marine science research, expand the social influence and attention of marine science, and enhance the awareness of the whole society, especially the youngsters to concern about, protect and take care of the ocean. The activities are conducted under the background that Shanghai is speeding up the construction of science and technology innovation center with a global influence and implementing the comprehensive education reform. In accordance with the requirements of “Vigorously Promoting the Public Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, the activities are centered on the theme of “Building the Ocean with Ecological Civilization in Accordance with the Law”, and take various kinds of forms such as activities for marine popular science among the youngsters, exhibition of Shanghai ocean science and technology innovations, establishing contract with the State Oceanic Administration Center for Disaster Prevention and Reduction, and so on.
The exhibition varies from 11000-meter-deep Rainbow Fish Manned Submersible to the construction of pelagic fishery resource survey ship in Shanghai, remote sensing technology of marine fishery, wave power device, ship ballast water treatment system, etc. A large number of marine high-tech achievements and products take full advantage of the latest achievements and research strength made by the scientific research institutes and enterprises in Lingang District in the field of marine high-tech. The scientific innovations made by the students of Shanghai Ocean University are also displayed collectively.
In order to speed up the research on the technology of marine disaster prevention and reduction and to promote the development of marine programs in our country, the State Oceanic Administration Center for Disaster Prevention and Reduction signed a strategic cooperation agreement with our university. According to this agreement, both parties will rely on the implementation of major projects and carry out research on the disaster prevention and reduction in the national marine areas. Meanwhile, they will carry out strategic cooperation in various kinds of aspects such as the construction of innovation platform and base platform, personnel exchanges and cooperation, the training of professional technical personnel in the field of ocean and so on.
