Sylvia Earle Gave a Lecture in SHOU

Sylvia Alice Earle is an American oceanographer, explorer and writer who is called “Her Deepness” by members in the Adventure Club of the Association of American Geographers and rated as “The First Hero for the Planet” by TIMES. She has guided about 100 times adventures and published over 190 monographs, popular science books and academic papers. Furthermore, she has addressed in more than 90 cities and districts to spread the knowledge of ocean technology, especially the awareness of ocean environment protection.

Before Dr. Sylvia Earle accepted our invitation to act as adviser in Hadal Science and Technology Research Center, she has given us much technology support especially in research and development of the 3rd generation of deep-sea manned submersible. The US DOER Marine Company founded by Dr. Sylvia Earle, has done a lot of research in operational Deep-sea manned submersibles.
Dr. Sylvia gave a presentation to the students and faculty in the morning about “The prospect and reality of sustainable development in ocean.” In the afternoon, she had an informal discussion with researchers of Hadal Science and Technology Research Center and gave advices on the concept design for developing the 11,000-meter underwater manned submersibles.
